Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

Wednesdays @ Waters Library presents "Wikipedia Edit-a-thon with Dr. Scott Lancaster."

You have used Wikipedia as a quick reference or a research starter. But have you ever considered adding to the content of this online crowd-sourced encyclopedia? A Wikipedia Edit-a-thon is an organized event where people come together to edit, improve or create Wikipedia pages. In this workshop you will learn how articles in Wikipedia are formed, why you should consider becoming a contributor and how you can edit existing articles or create new ones.

By the end of this workshop you will be able to:

  • Use your personal Wikipedia account to edit or create a page
  • Draw upon your expertise, knowledge and experience to collect cited information and appropriate media to support articles of your choosing
