The Texas A&M University-Commerce Affordability Committee is excited to announce a panel discussion on the topic of open educational resources (OER) on March 20 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm in Innovation A&B at the Rayburn Student Center. All are encouraged to attend.

The panel will feature Dr. Denise Neill, Nursing Department Head, Dr. Flavia Belpoliti, Director of Hispanic Studies Program, and George Swindell, Instructor & Program Liaison for the College of Innovation and Design.  Additionally, we are excited to announce Dr. Shonda Gibson, Senior Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Transformation Officer at the Texas A&M University System will serve as an invited panelist.

Open educational resources (OER) are a teaching, learning, or research resource that is in the public domain or has been released under an intellectual property license that permits the free use, adaptation, or redistribution of the resource by any person. These resources may include textbooks, readings, videos, simulations, games, and course content such as quizzes/exams, assignments, and assessment tools. OER materials are often digital and available to faculty and students through a variety of sources including the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Repository OERTX.

The OER movement is another way that faculty can remove barriers and support students. Texas A&M University-Commerce is committed to working with faculty to reduce textbook costs and make higher education more affordable, as well as maintain the highest quality in instructional materials.  Join us to explore ideas and resources to champion affordability and assist students to achieve their educational goals.
