I AM A MAN: Photographs of the Civil Rights Movement, 1960–1970 is a traveling exhibition that displays a wide range of photographs taken by amateurs, local photojournalists, and internationally known photographers. Together, they provide a vivid visual story of the evolution of the civil rights movement and shed light on the movement’s integration in daily living in the American South.

The exhibition is a Program of ExhibitsUSA, a national division of Mid-America Arts Alliance and the National Endowment for the Arts.

User Activity

Highly recommended for the whole family.

The exhibition highlights the importance of photography, amateur and professional, in documenting the Birth of the Civil Rights Movement. The photographs are emotionally moving and convey so much of what was felt by those who experienced History as it happened that I was brought to tears. Thank you for sharing these experiences and knowledge with us.
